The day started off overcast skies with no sunlight shining through. the temperatures were in the low 30's at the bottom of the mountain. The trail was hard packed, so snowshoes were not required.

I took my new camera with me to "capture the moment". Shortly after I started the hike I flushed a flock of wild turkeys. That will definitely surprise you! As I ascended the mountain the trees became heavy with snow and the trail became narrow.
After 1 1/2 hours of hiking I reached the Battell Shelter.

I decided to take a break and grab a bite to eat. The temperatures were still comfortable and the wind chill was low.
This is one of the first views on the ascent to the top. Here we are looking south towards Lincoln Gap

The wind picked up considerably and I had to put on my hood (to keep the snow from going down my neck) and neck warmer Once I reached the top the wind really picked up. The ground was thick with ice and it became difficult to move from one place to another.
This view is looking west towards Bristol and Lake Champlain.

Here is the view to the east towards Warren and Sugarbush. The Lincoln Gap road runs thorough the open area below.
Hiking back down below treeline was treacherous! The trail is steep and it was thick with ice.

When I reach the bottom I could not wait to get out of my wet clothes. The temperatures were back in the 30's and the sun was peaking through the clouds. Sorry, I had to subject you to this visual.
